Dear Benefactors,

Most of the Tu Bi Foudation programs are carried out in remote areas throughout Vietnam. When going up a mountain pass, when going down a mountain, to ethnic minority villages; When traveling to remote communes in the Southern provinces and the only means of transport are 2-wheelers and canoes. Our concept: near the city, there are always many associations near and far to help, easy transportation and they can complete the programs in the day easily. We vows to go to remote areas to help the poor. In 2018, there were many natural disasters in the United States, so charity work in Vietnam was also limited in budget. The Association would like to focus on the education section, helping with programs that help students. November, received a letter of help from ethnic minorities in Truong Xuan commune in Quang Binh. Thinking about the children in the mountains without a winter coat this winter, we are very concern. Tu Bi Foundation volunteers in Hanoi customized 74 sweaters for children from 1 to 16 years old to distribute at their school in ethnic minorities in Trường Nam and Bản Hang Chuồn villages, Nà Lâm. When looking at the gift-giving pictures, we were so happy to see the happiness of the children and their parents when given the shirts were brought to each student. It’s sad to see so many kids walking barefoot!

If all goes well, Tu Bi plan to return to Van Kieu villages to give gifts. Hopefully, there is a budget for us to be able to give more gifts to students in surrounding villages and some poor families in Truong Xuan and Truong Son communes in Quang Binh on the occasion of the Lunar New Year in 2019. Life is very difficult without fields and land to grow crops.

Dear Ms. Duyen,

The regions that belong to the host group are mainly concerned with the poor ethnic minorities. In the upland areas, the pupils and students still have many difficulties, if they can help the children with warm clothes and filters water, and other essential needs.

Lâm Đồng: give water well ceremony and gifts to the people in Đam Rông district

On November 2, 2018, the Buddhist Charity board in Lâm Đồng inaugurated the “School Water Well” and presented gifts in Đam Rông which is one of the 62 poorest district of the country, it also have the highest ethnic minority population at 65%.

Responding to the submission for clean water well to the board of directors at Phi Liêng primary school – Pop Lé village, Đam Rông district – reason being that the old water well was near the toilet was seriously polluted. Tu Bi Foundation has considered and financed the fund for industrial drilling wells at Phi Lieng Primary School, including a 110m underground water pumping system. Water pumping system, storage tank to provide for school activities. There are more than 300 students who are children of ethnic minorities, teachers and neighborhoods nearby. When there is a drought, people in the area can also come for water. For many years, schools had to buy drinking water for teachers and students to drink because of the polluted water. For this reason the School Water Well project was implemented. In particular, the budget of the well is funded by 2 benefactors, dedicating the merit to Vũ Văn Phương and Mr. Thân Thị Bích Đào who passed away in 2018. Much appreciation, may the merit of this work bring peace to their respective families and may they transition to a peaceful world.

In the joy and excitement, the school Principal expressed: “We are grateful to receive attention from Lâm Đồng Buddhist Charity and Tu Bi Foundation, the kind concern for our teachers and students as well as their relatives. On behalf of all the relatives here, we sincerely thank the monks, nuns and our benefactors. From now on clean water will be available, the school will not be afraid of the electric bill for pumping water for people around the area … ”.

In addition, Lâm Đồng Buddhist Charity gave gifts to the poor families and students. This is an invaluable gift for schools and relatives in the region. Water is a source of life that each of us cannot survive!
We are grateful to the charity committee of Lâm Đồng, the teachers and monks who accompanied Tu Bi Foundation, and our benefactors in taking this project to successful completion.

Everyone have the right to live and have aspirations, but the lives of overseas Vietnamese living at the border lake in Cambodia are “hopeless”. Because they do not have documentation and they are not Vietnamese citizen. Tu Bi Foundation could only visit annually with New Year gifts. Beside that the “love and kindness” school built by the Tu Bi Foundation has been carried out very well, the students are progressing very fast.

On Jan 6, the TuBi group arrive with gifts for 20 families living in the rubber forest. We visited the classroom and found the students too pale. And the clothes of the students were very slippery. We decided to return bringing each student with new clothes to celebrate the new spring – Year of the Fire Rooster. Each child was given fresh milk and candy. Mothers were given new clothes and each family is given a headlamp so they can see way in through the rubber forest at night.

We were happy to see the children dance to new clothes, drink milk and eat candy … we also bought powdered milk for a premature baby, the 7 months looked 1 month old.

Phú Mỡ is located 100 km far from Tuy Hòa city in the North West, Phú Mỡ highlands, Đồng Xuân district (Phú Yên) is separated from the delta, bordering Bình Định and Gia Lai. Due to its geographic location, Phú Mỡ has been named as “the highest, the farthest, the poorest, the hardest and the most heroic” of the province.

Phú Mỡ is still an extremely difficult commune, with poor, near poor households accounting for 75% to 80%. This is due to geographic conditions – it’s divided by many rivers and streams. The weather is very harsh, season of extended sunshine, even grass pasture is no more. During flood season, the whole commune was inundated, divided, and erode production land.

Finally, we were able to come to the people of Phú Mỡ, although roads were very difficult because of rain and flood. People waited to receive gifts from morning but our delegation didn’t reach Phú Mỡ till 5 pm. This was a difficult and dangerous trip.

On December 10th, the delegation tried to go to Phú Mỡ to give presents but because of rain, flood and 9km left the delegation had to return with the relief material. It is known that the people of Phú Mỡ have been isolated for a month. There are no charity groups to give gifts even though some delegations have tried, but have moved to another place because they can not go.

Heavy rain made traveling more difficult, on 25/12/2016 we decided to bring gifts to Phú Mỡ people because we did not want people to be disappointed and have to wait. The 100km drive took us 5 hours. As the mountain road was muddy and dangerous, the delegation had to take heavy trucks in to reach the people of Phú Mỡ. Tu Bi distributed 300 gifts for poor people and 306 shirts for students of Phú Mỡ primary school. As parents ourselves, w couln’t ignore when we see the students in this difficult situation.

A group of middle school students must swim the river twice a day just to get to school in recent days.

The incident happened at an ethnic minority school Đinh Núp in Phú Mỡ commune, Đồng Xuân district, Phú Yên province. Tuổi Trẻ (Youth) Newspaper posted some pictures taken by teacher Đặng Ngọc Thành of Đinh Núp school on Tuesday afternoon, September 20 after school. The ethnic minority pupils in Phú Lợi village swim by themselves, or cling to “floats”, which are hollow plastic containers, or carried on their back by the father on a river about 15 meters wide.
